FIRST COMMUNION
The Importance and Meaning of First Communion
“Do this in memory of me.” With these words ringing in our ears, we regularly celebrate Communion. As we drink the cup and eat the bread, we reflect on Christ’s sacrifice and look forward to his return. Yet Communion is much more than this. Our continued participation in this powerful ceremony molds our thinking and shapes our identity as a people of God and provides the truly blessed assurance that we have been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. The “message” of Communion is important and deserves our full attention.
First Communion is considered one of the holiest and most important occasions in a Maronite Catholic person’s life. It is the first time that a person receives the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, which is the eating of consecrated bread and drinking of consecrated wine. We believe these to be the body and blood of Jesus Christ. Our children receive their First Communion when they are in 2nd grade, because this is considered the age of reason.
In early fall, we embarked on an exciting year: preparing our children for their First Holy Communion! We learned many exciting things about our Faith, and deepened our appreciation for the Sacraments.
